According naval-history.net a FAA Skyraider crashed off Norway at some point in 1959. Crew rescued by a Russian trawler.

The Skyraider must have been of the AEW.1 type, soon to be replaced by Gannets.

Who has some more details about this accident?

Thanks for any info.

Found so far in the Flight Magazine archives that the Skyraider was operating from the carrier HMS Victorious.

Sorry to take away the fun of searching, but it seems Joe Baugher's website has the info for me!

It says:

127951 AD-4W: First flight 25/11/52; delivered to RN 19/2/53 as
Skyraider AEW.1 WT953. Ditched off Lofoten Islands 22/9/59 while
operating from HMS Victorious; crew rescued by Soviet trawler 'Mozyr'.Thanks anyways,

Picking up an old post, I have just discovered that WT453 was marked V/433, seeing as the three other Skyraiders in B-flight were
WV179 code V/432.
WV181 code V/430,
WT945 code V/431
According to photo taken during a press day september 1959.
(I can send the pic off board, it's on Alamy)

According to Air Britain's book, the aircraft belonged to 849Sq B-flight

WT945 was 433/V later 849Sq D-flt 453/V
WT953 was on loan to B-flight (from A-flight) when accident happened and code unknown (last known code 421/E)
WV179 was 432/V
WV181 was 430/V

Cheers

Guys, I see now that your information is correct. I jumped to conclusions too quick and on checking the picture in question you can see that it's quite possibly a 3 at the end of the number on WT945. For some reason I saw this as a 1. :(

Edit: Notice that the fourth, partially hidden Skyraider, has a V on its tail. One can then assume that it was repainted? And that the code could possibly be 431?
