Sadly I must report on the passing away of Kurt Kyck on 13 August , 2010 exactly almost seventy years since Kurt crashed landed in Ireland .
On 20 August 1940 , Kurt and his fellow crew members crashed on Faha Ridge on Mount Brandon , Co.Kerry .This was the first German plane of WW2 to crash in Ireland but it would not be the last . Kurt was the second radio operator and gunner on the FW200 .
Kurt was interned in the Curragh camp for the rest of the war and when it ended he returned to Germany .He did not stay there long as his sweetheart was in Ireland , he returned to Ireland got married and raised a family .
Kurt's son Wolfgang kept the family's name in the avation world and became a senior airline pilot in Aer Lingus .
Kurt will be sadly missed by all of us who knew him , may he rest in peace.
