Correct aircraft is Fi 156C-1, WNr. 707, which was shot down at Maciuki, southwest of Surwiliszki.

Hi,

thank you all for your inputs.

Matti, do you know the first names of Uffz. Hillemann and Reiher? To which unit they belonged to? Was the plane shot down by e/a, or from the ground? Thanks.

Siegfried Hillemann and Gebhard Reiher.

NVM gives Ln.-Rgt. 22 and Absturz infolge Feindbeschuß. Bruch 100 %.

Guys

How come the sources differ so much with regard to the WNr?
John says 5177 and Matti 707?
Which one is correct?

Cheers
Stig

Hi all!

Matti, thank you very much for additional information.

Norbert, on eBay I recently bought a photo of the grave of these men. It states that they died on 27. 6. 1941. (See attached photo thumbnail.)

Could well be that the crash was on the 24th and they died of their injuries on the 27th. But anyones is a good guess.

Norbert

Here is what we have about Hahn:

HAHN, Ernst.
11.39 Maj. and Kdr. Ln.-Abt. (mot) z.b.V., appt Kdr. I./Ln.-Versuchs-Rgt.
c.01.04.41 Maj., appt Kdr. Ln.-Rgt. 22 (to 24.06.41 KIA – in Fi 156 crash near Lida/NE Poland).

That's all we have about this fellow.

This is not first time when NVM contains different info from GQM reports. However, I consider NVMs more reliable, although even they can be erroneous. In this case 27.06.1941 seems to be correct for the following reasons:
- there were three persons in the aircraft and all of them were reported to be dead in the crash
- Major Hahn is reported in a separate NVM as the others and all have the same death date
- grave of Major Hahn has this date.
Until firm evidence to support 24.06 can be found, I'll keep my present info in my files.

Matti

Hello,

ich spreche nur Deutsche. Ich habe zufalligerweise dieses Thema "Fi 156 crash on June 27" gefunden. Das Dorf Maciuki liegt in unserer Gegend in Belarus, ganz in der Nahe an Litauen.
Das Flugzeug war nach Beschuss durch sowjetische 12. Schützendivision abgesturzt.
