On what dates before D-Day did the British ace J.E. “Johnnie” Johnson personally lead the Spitfires of 144 Wing of 441, 442 and 443 Squadrons, RCAF, from RAF Ford, on dive-bombing missions against ground targets in France ?

He describes leading one such mission (which included having to have a pilot fished out of the Channel by a Walrus) at the conclusion of chapter 13 of his classic memoir WING LEADER.

The wing flew a large mission against V-1 sites on 28 May and a radar site on 5 June.

Does anyone know which mission Johnson’s description refers to and what the results of it were?

Thanks,

The shoot-down and rescue of FO John Marriott, RCAF, 442 Squadron described in Johnson's chapter 13, took place on 13 May, according to Capt Grant MacDonald and Capt Terry Stocel, 442 SQUADRON HISTORY, 1987, p. 30. and Christopher Shores and Chris Thomas 2ND TACTICAL AIR FORCE, v. 1, Spartan to Normandy, June 1943 to June 1944, p. 107.

Anyone have easy access to the 442 Squadron and/or 144 Wing ORB entries?
