One of my heroes has passed away recently, General Robinson Risner USAF.
I can remember being at work one morning in the mid sixties and seeing a copy of Time Magazine on a chair. There was a picture of a Thunderchief pilot on the cover. I read the article and I've always loved the F105 and it's pilots ever since..
He wrote a book in later years called "The Passing Of The Night".
Strangely enough some time after he was shot down and captured a fellow pilot James H. Kasler, also appeared in an article in Time, (which I also read!) and he too was shot down shortly afterwards...
I'm pretty sure no more pilots gave interviews to Time Magazine after this...
