Lyman A. Beeman and Peter Ušiak:
The Diary. The authentic diary of the fighter pilot from WWII.
On November 19th 1944aircrafts P-51D of 31st Fighter Group, 15th Air Army, USAAF took off in morning hours from base in San Severo, Italy. They should shell road and railway transportation in areas of Esztergom, Veszprem, Gyor and Bratislava. Among them was P-51 D Mustang of 1st Lt. Lyman A. Beeman from 309th Fighter Squadron. However, during attack on German military vehicle he hit a tree and he had to bail out from his plane, whose engine failed. It happened over Slovakia. His machine crashed directly in the village of Hrubonovo, near Nitra, he himself landed close to the place of crash. He was captured ad ended in prisoner camp of the Luftwaffe named Stalag Luft I near German town Barth, on Baltic coast. Lt. Beeman survived captivity and after liberation returned to the United States. The wreck of his plane was excavated in 1988. Early in 90ties Beeman visited Slovaki and came to the place of his planes's crash. Lyman Beeman died in May 1994, however he left his diary, which I am presenting in this book.
