Hi guys

Gefreiter Erich Mix of Jasta 54 claimed a captive observation balloon as his second victory but was shot down by ground fire and had to perform an emergency landing west of Preny on 3 September 1918. Are any details known of his aircraft on this occasion? Aside of that it most likely was a Fokker D.VII there is not much that I have been able to uncover. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Horrido!

Your best bet for this is the Aerodrome forum

Hi Chris

Unfortunately, I have had no luck trying to register at www.theaerodrome.com (http://www.theaerodrome.com) for some odd reason. I certainly agree that if there is something to be found on this particular incident it is at that excellent web site. Perhaps some kind soul that is already a member can post this question on the appropriate forum?

Osprey published a two-part work covering the Fokker D VII aces, in their Aircraft of the aces-series. The second part covers aces from the non-JG Jagdstaffeln. I do not have these books myself, but part 2 might contain something of use concerning Erich Mix.

Hi nattruppen

Many thanks for your suggestion. Unfortunately, I do have both of the books in this series and while the second does mention Jasta 54 and Erich Mix there is actually quite little on either possibly due to the fact that Jasta 54 only claimed 22 victories by the end of the war. I should point out that the photograph on page 87 which is captioned as being of him and his fighter is now thought to actually be of Leutnant Walter Vogt and his personal aircraft. Many thanks for your time and the more replies the better!

Hi Nokose

Many thanks for your information. I have take the liberty of updating the victory list of my thumbnail biography of this ace with it. Any comments or corrections will be much appreciated!
