Re: Which stories behind these photos?

Hampdens that the Germans got hold of were P2070 VN-X of 50 Sqn, L4146 QR-P and P4324 also QR-P both of 61 Sqn, AE265 of 144 Sqn PL-? and AT109 UB-C of 455 Sqn.

So the latest photo of Hampden 'P' could be one of those from 61 Sqn and as P4324 landed in Vlieland off the Dutch coast and we have seen photos of it I reckon this new photo is L4146 that force landed in Germany out of fuel on 24th May 1940.

Incidentally the roundal looks typically 1940 and the green and brown camo is still painted on the fuselage sides (fuselage sides were painted black from late 1940 onwards)

The D/F loop is of the early retractable type before the fixed streamlined versions were fitted, all of which indicate early war period

Re: Which stories behind these photos?

Just to end the confusion YH was used on 21 Sqn Lockheed Venturas in NW Europe and by 11 Sqn in the Middle East on Blenheims.

The photo of the Blenheim on this thread is virtually the same setting as the YH-L coded Blenheim said to be abandoned in Crete - as seen on Page 32 of 'In Enemy Hands' by Bryan Philpott by PSL 1981. Even the way the aircraft individual code has been placed on YH-D is the same as YH-L.

112 Sqn was a Fighter Sqn flying the Tomahawks and Kittyhawks for much of WW2.

I am sorry for writing 112.I wanted to write 113 squadron instead which operated in Greece. To my opinion its T2168 crashed on landing at Niamata.See:http://113squadron.com/id21.htm
at aircrews and losses the 2nd pic from top at the background.Maybe its good to compare the pics if we could see the one Larry wrote. He could be right though.
