Both photos already offered 12 October 2020; the scans are better this time.

Dear all,
Can anyone identify the downed 109 in the attached photograph.
The photo is part of Alan Walter Gears photo album.
Kind regards
Gerry

Dear Gerry,

This is an Mtt built Bf 109 G-6/Trop operated by JG 53. The W.Nr. is chalked on the upward pointing propeller blade, possibly reading W.Nr. 16543. It certainly ascertains an Mtt built G-6; given the W.Nr. range, this photo was taken during his time in Sicily or Southern Italy during Summer 43.

Cheers
Marc

Detail of the blade attached after some processing. I'll leave others to decide what the number is!

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes

Gerry,
you're most welcome !

Nick,
thanks for your processed blade detail. W.Nr. 16343 seems a fair possibility too. Alas no information on that particular machine to my knowledge.

Cheers
Marc

Thanks Gerry for this pic.
This said, 16543 was effectively captured as attested by the following picture. Source unknown (to not say eBay)
Cheers,
Franck.

Can it be the "white 15"?

The watermark in the upper left is for the Smithsonian/NASM in the USA.

Interesting evolution: we had "Weisse 15" since December 2014 as W.Nr. 18199, captured at Foggia. If only one period photo would show the left side of the tail, to match skin damage...

Cheers

Hmmm... and this, Marc? IHMO it looks very similar. And the more damaged cowling can also be the result of the rudely transport to the States?!

Ok, its a hard puzzle... and I like to stay on visual facts...
Notice the dark dirt/damage between the air scoope and the "Pik As". Very clear, or?
You got the "white 15" as WNr. 18199, based on what facts? I think you can change it now. ;-)
Greetings my friends... thanks to Nick, Franck and Marc and to Gerry for the photos.

The prop blades have the same damage/bend in them.

Anyway, 18199 was a JG77 machine ;)

Unfortunately that was the only photograph of German aircraft in the album so I can't add any more.

Most welcome, Gerry. Collective knowledge is crucial, as always.
One last question on my side: any way to know where this photo was taken in Italy ?

Cheers

I'm sorry but the album has no further information relating to the location.
I wish that I could help you more.
