Why does Michael Balss give July instead of June ?
And why there is no source for the information provided in LWif? (I don't expect an answer from you Leo)

And where is Wjerdina (Vyerdina) airfield? There is no place by this name in either Soviet or German airfield directories and lists for the UdSSR. Nor does Google Earth show any towns or villages with this spelling.

But a lot of links, all Luftwaffe related, even in Russian. Only one indication in LWiF N°4 "near Smolensk".

From my better half... It is Вердино - [read as Vyerdina]. Link to the Wikipedia site in Russian below.

Thank you, Sidney/Sinisa! Your "better half" hit the bull's eye. Google Earth spells it Verdino and shows it as a tiny spot with 6 houses along Route P136 about 75 km NNE of Smolensk, coordinates 55 26 26 N - 32 18 25 E. Since there was no known airfield here, it was probably a meadow or farm field used as an improvised landing ground by 10.(Schl.)/LG 2. As we all know, the Hs 123 could land just about anywhere.

Hard to link to a specific item at this particular dealer's site but for anyone interested in the technical training for Luftwaffe aircrew, Item 74190 is a set of 6 notebooks for a Bordfunker at 2.Bordfunker-Ausbildungs-Kompanie:

www.ffmilitaria.com

There are other Lufrwaffe related periodicals and training manuals throughout the site.
