With a bit of adjustment they both seem to be reconnaissance machines: 77022_ and possibly 201054.

If that second one is correct then it was a NAGr. 11 aircraft which suffered minor engine damage on 17 February 1945 during a non-operational flight.

If they were photographed together then the other may be 770220 which was delivered from München-Riem to Lonate, Italy on 24 February 1945 (ULTRA CX/MSS/T472/2).

Thanks Andy, for those great shots, and Nick for your W.Nr. decoding.

As said by you, Nick, Bf 109 G-8 W.Nr. 201054 form NAGr. 11 is known to have had engine trouble 17 February 1945, location unknown but most probably Udine-Campformido in Italy.

As for Bf 109 G-10/R2 W.Nr. 77022x "Kleine 7", it is believed to have been found in May 45 at Udine-Campoformido and to have been on strength at 1./NAGr. 11.

In this W.Nr. range, we can exclude :
- W.Nr. 770223, delivered from WNF to 1./NAGr. 3, 2 April 1945
- W.Nr. 770224 "Weisse 10", on strength with 2./NAGr. 12 in Hungary, late 1944 - early 1945
- W.Nr. 770228 "Weisse 12", 1./NAGr. 12, lost 25 March 1945 during a failed crash landing due to AAA east of Wilmsdorf, killing Oblt. Kurt Kohlhagen.

Thanks again for your find,
Marc

Trying to cast my mind back to when we were writing Air War Italy 1944–45, I think that Staffel colours were reversed in NAGr. 11, the 1. Staffel using black numbers and the 2. using white. This seemed to be a legacy of the units they had been formed out of in Autumn 1943, 4.(H)/12 and 2.(H)/14 respectively. 2./NAGr. 11 had eight Bf 109 G-10/R2 on 22 April 1945.

77022x came up in a thread here in (I think) 2012 and I saved a copy of the image as "Golding photos 002" (see attached).

Thanks Nick, for recording us this tactical markings oddity.

Hi there Gang,

Thanks to Michael Veith, over on Late war Bf 109's Group, Fb, the best photo so far of Erla Leipzig built Bf 109 G-10 W.Nr. unknown "Schwarze 3", 10./JG 51, seen after being flown in for surrender at Kopenhagen-Kastrup, May 1945. Source: Image from the RJ Atkinson personal collection.

The second photo of a deep oil cooler Bf 109 G-14/AS or G-10 is possibly taken at Rheine in April 1945.

Richey4Real,

Thanks for shoring up one of my lapses: though on my Flickr page, I forgot to mention here Bf 109 G-14 W.Nr. 465 466 "Schwarze 8", also from 10./JG 51 and seen at Copenhagen-Kastrup in May 1945 after flying out of Fl. Pl. Brüsterort.

An Erla built G-10 with chin bulges?

Jörg, it is one of those makeshift airframes made flyable thanks to the desperate efforts of the III./JG 51 Schwarze Männer by using up whatever parts they could salvage from condemned airframes in order to allow the repairable ones to fly out of Fl.Pl. Brüsterort for Kastrup in the first week of May 45.

The most striking example is Bf 109 K-4 «Schwarze 1», from the same unit, which landed at Bornholm, having flown across the Baltic with an Erla built G-6 right engine panel:
