Re: eBAy: Captured german planes

Hi,
some clarifications:

1. first registry was D-ADBX, it's just unclear to me, if it really was also assigned to Lufthansa. It would be plausible and consistent, as Lufthansa did order this series.

2. the StKz PF+UR was given to this He111G, WNr.3365, probabely when assigned to F.d.F..

3. the double assignement of StKz PF+UR also to He111H, WNr.3229 is not necessarily a contradiction. It is something that happened and is documented in a multitude of cases, sometimes with totaly different planes from diffent companies involved.

There are some unclarities however, as the site stammkennzeichen.de has the Werknummer of PF+UR as 3229 (On the other hand, the site also lists this plane as a H-variant, while it is obviously a He 111 G). I leave it to others to shed more light on this, though...

Thanks ChristianK ! Much appreciated

Thanks for those Rudi. Though heavily pixelated, the Bf 109 seems to be Bf 109 K-4 W.Nr. 334 ... "Schwarzer Winkel kleine 1", Lt. Ernst Dieter Bernhard, Stab III./JG 53.
Low on fuel after flying an interception mission between 17h25 and 18h50 on 19 April 1945, Lt. Bernhard elected to land at Kaufbeuren to refuel. The starboard landing gear refused to lower and despite, Berhnard trying to pull it free with sharp pull ups, he finally had to belly land his brand new machine. He did this very smoothly, ending 50 meters away from the airfield's hangar.
Source: Prien 1998, p. 1073 - 1075.

Another shots of this machine is Prien and Rodeike 1995, p. 176. You have also the same aircraft in colour here:

We just have to hope the listed "G" were, effectively, "G" subtype leaving only one K-4 .. if not ... :)

Correct; it is a "Winkel kleine 2" indeed. It is thus the third Stab JG 53 Bf 109 K-4 known. Besides Lt Bernhard's "kleine 1"found at Kaufbeuren, we have also "Winkel kleine 5" found at Vilseck:

Franck, there are some "if'"; there is no visible Werknummer on these fotos nor an exact location, but mentioned one are from CEAR No. 269, dated 30.03.1945.

Well - AFAIK, the Alliied have identified K-4's as such in only a very few cases, often these are mentioned as G-6, G-10 or G-14 in the CEAR and Technical Intelligence Reports known to me.
I assume that the K-4 did not have a identification plate as known from older versions. A positive identification is only possible if the Werkummer is listed in these reports. F.e., there are 17 Werknummern of K-4s in a Report of Wertheim a/f , al listed as G-14.

Heuser
