Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Post #4732 - I received a copy of this photo, sans signature, from the late Jim Crow decades ago. I believe that it is Gothćr-Waggonfabrik-built Bf 110 G-4, WNr. 180564, found abandoned at Fl.Horst Ansbach (coordinates 49.308333 10.641667). Note, this is a very poor reproduction of it.
Respectfully, Steve Sheflin |

Attached are details from the two Ju 88 wreck photos side-by-side, with some adjustment to bring out the Werk Nummer of one of them. We appear to have 330716 and 330718: to me the curves of the final digit on each aircraft look differen.t |
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Greetings to all,
Unless I am mistaken, the Fw 190 illustrated in Post #4727 is a relatively-rare Fw 190 A-7, WNr, 430706, St.Kz. CT+LO, which was abandoned in a large collection of aircraft at Einsatzhafen Bayreuth-Bindlach, Germany (coordinates 49.984722 11.638889). Of particular interest is the hand-applied white script below its cockpit. Respectfully, Steve Sheflin |

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
However, the two in post 4728 show the same thing, white script on the port side. Was this a message chalked on by the allies to denote they planes were checked and safe?

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
I have seen photos of German aircraft with a "Keep Off!" sign. This was done by air intelligence teams. There were also "Booby Traps!" signs.
The Germans knew that Allied souvenir hunters might climb aboard or, if not for souvenirs, just to get a photo of themselves sitting in an enemy plane. The British had an agreement with the Americans to exchange certain listed, desirable aircraft when found by either for air intelligence transfer. When fighter planes were to be abandoned, sometimes a grenade was thrown into the cockpit. For larger aircraft, the Germans placed an explosive charge about midway in the aircraft. It could be set off once someone came aboard or tried to move the aircraft. I have a photo of two German bombers neatly split in half as a result of this. Ed |

AFAIR they installed demolition charges called "gebalte Ladung"on board of the He 111 and the Ju 88 . These could be used to destroy the a/c when they belly landed it behind enemy lines. |

Thanks Rudi!
This is the same KG 200-He 111 as in the attached photos, coded A3+D(S?). Odd structure in the background. The photos I have were sold together with others from Berlin-Tempelhof, but I am not sure those ones were also taken there. The background in the pictures posted by Rudi looks a little too rural for Berlin. Does anyone have more info on this plane? |

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Somebody recently bought a series of original negatives; the Hs 129 photo on the bottom is a positive copy off that crisp negative.

Could someone imagine the Wn on the Bf 110, of the last post, .087 ,,?

According to the seller it is WNr 3879 Cheers Stig PS: I cannot locate this one straight ahead in MAW 1, but since Herrn Bock did not belong to the team at that point, I believe lots of Luftwaffe data is missing from the book. One possibility is 28 Jan 1942 where a III./ZG 26 Bf 110 (no WNr) is said to have crash landed north of Ghemines. If that is not it, at least I cannot see it. |
