Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Is is possible that the photo in #1262 shows a late Bf 109G or K from JG 26?
It looks like a black and white band behind the cross. |
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Post 1262: this late war Bf 109 G displays a two coloured RVB band compatible with JG 5 and JG 301. The latter is well documented in the ETO.

Re #1265-Jim Crow collection has another image of this wreckage with the location identified as Bron/Lyon. No other info.

The reverse of the photo shows that it has been removed from an album and the caption torn. "…is, France" is legible. So, we need somewhere else where there were both a Ju 88 S-3 and an Me 410. In France there are few possibilities for the latter type since the only ones still there by D-Day—so far as I recall—would have belonged to II./KG 51, 1.(F)/121 or 1.(F)/33 and none of those units had very many. Ju 88 S were more common of course. |
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
That is strange looking 'G'. To me looks more like a '5' or possibly a 'S'.

Enlarging it, I think it's a stencilled G but I wouldn't say so with certainty. |
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
GL or 5L. A most unusual, to me, tail marking. It is different from the three part transport codes.
