Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
The photos in posting #5099 are almost certainly not of a Ju 88, the positioning of the horizontal tail suggests it could be a Fw 58.

Interestingly, the Stkz. is painted on the mainwheel. It ensures positive identification.

If that is correct it was WNr 0143 which I had with I/LLG 2 at Parchim in Aug 1942. When was this wreck found at Derna? Cheers Stig |

Denea & Stig - The DL+DQ marking is consistent with the practice of identifying field equipment (canopy-covers - engine covers) in relation to the aircraft concerned. |
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Hi Tom
Yes I have seen some photos where I think tarpaulin has had such markings. I always thought it was a way to mark a belonging, ie this item belongs to this aircraft and that they used the STKZ as readily available identifier. Not sure if you confirm or deny this here....? Cheers Stig |

Posts - 5111; 5112; 5116; 5117 The tarpaulin covers had both the W/Nr and Stkz details - it would seem that the take-off wheel dolly would most likely have been stowed with the aircraft some times but mostly at the operators base. |
