Since a 3Z+GP had been destroyed by strafing at Istres on 16 June 1944, this is quite likely to be that aircraft. |

So, can anybody tell me why this one went so high?
https://www.ebay.com/itm/WW2-Photogr...53.m1438.l2649 It looks to me like a JG4 RVB. But what else is so special? Roger |
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
According to the seller, these 2 photos were taken near Braunschweig:
Bf 109: https://4imhrq.bn1302.livefilestore....&cropmode=none http://www.ebay.de/itm/WW2-Photograp...19.m1438.l2649 Fw 190 (sic). Looks more like the tail of a Me 410 to me: https://4io8uq.bn1302.livefilestore....&cropmode=none http://www.ebay.de/itm/WW2-Photograp...19.m1438.l2649 Regards, Rudi. |
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
The Bf 109 is featured in my book "Captured Eagles Vol. 1" with two sharp photos. It was used for testing the DB 605. See also here:

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Photos are also published in WOTBC Number 9 for post #491 upper. This is D-IWAU, Bf 109 F-4, W.Nr. 9227 at Regensberg circa 1945. It was photographed with a number of other aircraft which are also identified.

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
G-2/Trop "Doppelwinkel" was already in auction on eBay.de in March 2016.
But in same album we can find this, completely new photo: http://historical-media.com/images/2...a/DSC_2628.jpg "Irmgard", indeed. Regards, Franck. |
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
In post 496: that is not a Ju 188, but a Ju 88 G-6 used by V./NJG 2 for ground attack missions. It's sister aircraft U5+NT and the story behind the V./NJG 2 Ju 88 G-6s is featured in my "Captured Eagles Vol. I" book.

Hello Roger, There could be a number of reasons: 1) This photo helps to complete a set of other photos of the same aircraft from different angles, 2) the person in the photo could be a relative and this could be the only known photo of him, 3) on occasion, buyers buy what they like without concern for price (for most of us, hard to believe). I recall an old photo of only an aircraft engine sitting on the ground get some bids. No other parts, people, nothing else. The relative distance meant little detail could be seen. Ed |

Hi there folks, It is highly probable we have here a JG 300 machine as visible from the three segments RVB band hues; hence the value for an updated JG 300 edition. 2. I concur, Franck; it could well be a K-4 and it might be the one found at Tarnewitz in May 1945 and also depicted in Noro "LO+ST", p. 18 and here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/280920...57631643405670 Thanks for those, Michiel ! Marc |
