Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Can anyone make out any of those Battle serials
the one on the right looks like K8568 but that is not a Battle serial I assume the second one is a 150 Sqn machine |
Re: eBay: Allied intrest
OK Maybe I can see L series on left?
|
Re: eBay: Allied intrest
These Battles have appeared in many other EBay photos and using these and other sources I believe they are as follows.
On the left is K9349 RH-J of 88 Squadron, while on the right is L5583 JN-B of 150 Squadron. The location I believe to be Houssay airfield and this 'collection' was formed as late as 14 or 15 June 1940, just before the units evacuated to the UK. There is also the burnt out remains of a third Battle (L5466) behind these two in the foreground. The photos were probably taken after the Germans had gathered the wrecks on the airfield into one location. Most photos as above are somewhat unclear for the serials and the angles are often not right, so if anyone comes across more images of this aircraft group it would be very helpful. Ed, thanks for yet another great photo find. Regards, Martin Gleeson. |
Re: eBay: Allied intrest

Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Unless there is writing on the back or recognizable buildings or other landmarks, I doubt further information can be found. I don't discourage any attempts, but for photos like these, there is not enough to work with.

Re: eBay: Allied intrest
The odd-looking tail does not look like any Battle I know. POD/PQD would appear to be part of a civil registration. I have looked at the French registration F-APOD (Potez 621) - APQD (Mauboussin 123) and again the tail suggests none of these.
Anybody like to take the reins! |
Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Paul/Tom
I am pretty certain this is the Potez 621 F-APOD I know it was reported as destroyed in a hangar on 3 June 1940 at Etampes but I don't know how reliable this "inside" is, and the German could after all have dragged it outside before any final scrapping was done. To me it looks like a big aircraft (which fits the 621) while all other options are even worse F-APOO - Hanriot 16 F-APOQ - no known aircraft F-APQD - Mauboussin 123 F-APQO - as above Cheers Stig |
Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Two different aircraft...??
|
Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Hi Stig & Kaiyan - Yes I was thinking along the same lines. The tail belongs to a Glen Martin 167. So more likely an aircraft dump rather than a crash-site.
|
Re: eBay: Allied intrest
I agree Tom .. the tail had me confused could not place it.

Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Hi
Post #583 first link : We have Curtiss H-75 n°72 rather at Dunkerque-MArdyck rather than Calais. BUT what is this Belgie Fox(?) beside. Another ebay photos give a code 705 as a code on fuselage. Bertrand |
Re: eBay: Allied intrest
This is a Fokker D.XVII that escaped to France and captured by Germans
|
Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Re: #590
If the code on the fuslage is in fact 705 then this is a Fokker C.X a couple of pic show it along side the Hawk, if I remember it was talked about on the old LEMB which is where the pics come from |
Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Thanks for the replies guys; yes same place same a/c
Bertrand |
Re: eBay: Allied intrest
|
Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Thanks Kaiyan - I knew it was a Fokker but I could not remember the exact Type details
