MTO? Spitfire Serial ER665? Unsure...

Re: Which stories behind these photos?
If the serial is correct then it's a 152 Sqn Spitfire Mk V that was lost on a sweep on 28th Dec 1942 while flying from Soul-el-Arba (Algeria?)

Re: Which stories behind these photos?
Here's a couple from my collection...
Mosquito on a harbor dock...From the camouflage it must be 1944 or so. A B-25 hulk taken from a German E-Bay site, Could this be the B-25 mentioned by Ricahrd Bueschel when he photographed the Belgians BW-239s? |

A new one enigma for your sagacity!
I believe it's an Avro Anson, regarding the shape of remains... may be a MK squadron code? Unsure about the K letter. Date, place, events? Here... http://cgi.ebay.de/Orig-Foto-abgestu...item1e64f91e5b http://cgi.ebay.de/Orig-Foto-abgestu...item1e64f91e87 http://cgi.ebay.de/Orig-Foto-abgestu...item1e64f91e71 |
Re: Which stories behind these photos?
This Anson displays early war type thin fin flash circa June 1940
An MK code on this Anson is a distinct possibility - MK was used by 500 Sqn on Ansons in WW2 until April 1941. they were based at RAF Detling, Kent at this period in time. 217 Sqn also used MW codes on Ansons flying from St Eval in Cornwall. As 500 Sqn was heavily involved with patrols for Dunkirk I think it is this Sqn as 217 Sqn was covering the Western Approaches watching out for U-Boats at this time. The only other Operational unit with Anson using an M code was 278(ASR) Sqn which used MY - but that was in 1943 |
