The wrecks are the poor remains of Ju 88 G-6's scrapped at Brunnthal. Your second Bf 109 is an Mtt built Bf 109 G-14/AS, with the six line long stencilled writing on the engine cowling. One day, one of the veteran shots will be sharp enough to be able to read at last its content, still unknown as of today ;) As for the jet engines, they seem to be Jumo 004's (?). The tail unit is of the late war type commonly used on all Bf 109 G-10, G-14 or K-4. Thanks for those Marc |

And here for some new and highly interesting pictures shot along the Hofoldinger Forst, Munich-Salzburg Autobahn, the day when this area was overrun by the 3d US Infantry Division, 30 April 1945, as ascertained by the snowfall which happened 29-30 April 1945: http://www.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...rcraft%22+1945 Most of the machines are still camouflaged by cut down trees, one Bf 110 G-4 and one Ju 88 G-6 being recognisable. Marc-AH. Not all can see this. Please note that there are two (or more) members here (that already have written a book) with real and active interest in this place, so please... in case new is there (but we are not interested in logging on to the web-page in question)

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
No problems, Eggert. I have since uploaded for ease of access those four pics on the dedicated FB page.
Cheers Marc |
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
I do not use FB, so same problem, and have no intention to use FB, ever.
Some say this is far sighted! |
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Thanks again, RudiS, for:
- saving our friend Eggert from his predicament - finding this new gem (different a/c): we have here a rare global view of Gardermoen in May 1945, after the german surrender. in the centre, you have this lone Bf 109 G-8 of NAGr. 32. It is either W.Nr. W.Nr. 200 254 or 201 805. Four other pictures are known from NAGr. 32 machines, mainly of probably W.Nr. 201 544 : www.flickr.com/photos/28092068@N03/23023466280 http://www.flickr.com/photos/2809206...7650293407893/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/2809206...7650293407893/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/2809206...7650293407893/ Thanks again and Cheers Marc |
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Yes,thanks. Gardermoen is todays "Oslo Airport". Fortunately I have already got list of Ju 188 and 88s surrendered there, some with odd (read= wrong) numbers, where 5xxx Fuselage numbers from Ju 188 A-3 are said Ju 88 A-17. Codes to serials are very slowly coming to light. Unfortunately nothing can be gleaned from these.
#647 xx+Jx apears rare Ju 88 C-2/4 (VDM props) but shows trace of radar nose (or ex nose cap from C-6 Li one) and possibly Armour Windsheld from C-6 too. Some time ago I wrote of no Ju 88 C-6 prototype. I failed notice that one Ju 88 C-4 was tested with Jumo 211 J (for C-6 / Night Fighter) 1941 but if prototype V number was assigned, it may have been the Ju 88 V35 W.Nr. 0880395 PL+TM , that also later got Jumo 213 A-1 engines... |
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Thanks Ed.
Do you happen to know the unit of the burned out Ju 88 coded ??+CM in post #647 ? Regards, Rudi. |
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Yes, I think this shows the pile of burned II/KG 26 planes at Gardermoen in autum 1945.
All visible appear have wave mirror, and several A-17s were left at Gardermoen, 20 planes ! and many were ex-KG 77 from the Med (with either RLM 02 or Whitewash camo). Note Ju 188 canopy frame in foreground, also burned by the British. The Norwegians were not happy how they disposed of perfectly good planes and got just a few obsolete transports for their own use and had to buy Mosquitos & Spitfires etc. like the Danes. |

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Hi Marc,
Once again, I must thank you for your hard work and dedication. Regarding this photo, http://www.ww2online.org/image/ameri...e-1944-or-1945, purportedly WNr. 568318, after checking my database and photo files I believe it is more likely: Ar/War-built Fw 190 F-8 (WNr. 588318) 40+ white. Respectfully, Steve Sheflin |
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Nice, more pictures of Blue 1......the second D-9 picture is imho not an II./JG 6 a/c but probably an II./JG 2 one......there are no D-9's with red-white-red bands....

That was my mistake: I'm currently in the Swiss Alps....without my library. I'm pretty sure this II./JG 2 plane has been already published, possibly in Jerry Crandall's books. Cheers Marc |
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
That's fine Marc......thin air in The Alps...:-))).....I already Checked Jerry's books but no luck....there is something that looks similar but not the same a/c.

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Hello Maciej,
Thank you for posting these interesting photos (Post #664). Regarding: http://www.ww2online.org/image/ameri...n-1944-or-1945, this is a beautiful example of an Fw 190 F-8 outfitted for night attack operations. Note that it is fitted with exhaust flame dampers, and that its small yellow plane number 5 has been applied relatively far forward of its Balkankreuz and on its main gear wheel covers. Does anyone recognize the hangar/control tower in the background? Respectfully, Steve Sheflin |
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
... and this one looks like a Ju 86 fitted with a FuG antenna: https://49fe30bb3aa7406c16dc-5c96811....297.152_1.jpg Also very interesting, never seen that before (given that the antenna in the picture really belonged to the wreck behind it, of course)

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
We can even, almost , see the Kz of the Si 204 behind..

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
About post #665 : I./SKG 10 (later III./KG 51 and then I./NSGr 20) used this kind of small number.

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Ju 88: IIRC this is Ju 88 A-4 300320 PI+SX of I/KG 76 at Cerignola.
I asked the seller for a better scan then the photo in the auction: https://bwrbaq.bn1302.livefilestore....&cropmode=none https://bwp2dg.bn1302.livefilestore....&cropmode=none https://www.ebay.com/itm/Large-Lot-9...19.m1438.l2649 Bf 109 Negative: https://bwo5rg.bn1302.livefilestore....&cropmode=none https://www.ebay.com/itm/WW2-German-...19.m1438.l2649 Regards, Rudi. |
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
"IIRC" is accurate .. some 60 km off mark. Not serious.
Yes, this is +SX confirmed on colour photo I have from old auchion. Ju 88 A-4/trop 300320 PI+SX of I/KG 76 - Found shot up Foggia Sattelite No.3 Airfield in Italy, autumn 1943 Germans called this area Tortorella in GQM losses (inaccurate). Cerignola is SSE of Foggia, but No.3 was North of Foggia.
But RAF source is not entierly realiable re these wrecks, best refer to Foggia area, sister ship (300227 PI+SU) that went to the USA was repaired by 79 FG simply as "Foggia" (but some say Salsola) but that group later moved to Madna. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foggia_Airfield_Complex |

Hello Rudi,
I believe that the Bf 109 in Post #669 is Bf 109 E-7 (WNr. 3552) found abandoned at Fl.Horst Fürth. Respectfully, Steve Sheflin |

Hello Rudi, regarding Post #675,
The Fw 190 D-9 with the two GIs is a flopped print, and represents our old friend: Mimetall-Erfurt-built Fw 190D-9 (WNr. 500570), 12+ - Blue, late of 8./II./JG6, flown-in to surrender at Fl.Horst Fürth on 45/05/08. Respectfully, Steve Sheflin |
