Re: eBay: Allied intrest

Good question Ed

Depending on what they took and under what circumstances I think we have more German artifacts kept than Allied, but that is just a feeling.....

Cheers

Re: eBay: Allied intrest

Ed,

No. 1 #1814 is a great find, possibly the first image of this Blenheim from 18 Squadron (code 'WV') to come to light. But which Blenheim exactly ? I cannot read the last digit. Hope someone can enhance that part of the photo.

It is probably L9186 or L9187.
18 Squadron used four Blenheims in the 'L918x' range.
L9185 is reputed to be the belly-landed 'WV-N', shot down by a Spitfire on 21 May 1940.
L9186 was damaged landing at Meharicourt on 8 May 1940, and was abandoned when the unit moved to Goyencourt on May 17th.
L9187 is just stated to have been abandoned in France during May 1940.
L9188 crashed on landing in England on 4 September 1940.

So L9186 and L9187 are the most likely candidates here. However beware of any fates for these two as previously published. Establishing the fates of many of the 18 Squadron aircraft (by serial) is very difficult due in no small measure to the unreliability of their ORB.
That frame in front of the near engine looks like something connected with an engine change and the airscrew appears to have been removed. L9186 would be a strong possibility here.

Regards,

Martin Gleeson.
