Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
The bird 5310 was used by JGr. West and made 45% on 13.04.1943 (reported as A-3). On 27.05.1943 was at AGO FRW Villacoublay (reported as A-2).
Before that it was with Stab III./JG 26 Black <<+I "Jutta". Regards Dirk |

The first Bf 109 is a nagging issue: this Erla produced Bf 109 G-6 "Schwarzer Winkel kleine 2" - probably from Stab II./JG 53, was at first thought to have been found at Comiso, in July 1943. Though no definitive evidence has arisen since, there is a distinct possibility this machine was found at La Marsa, in May 1943. The second - burnt out - Bf 109 is a G-10 as ascertained by the remains of the D/F loop and the full circle oil tank behind the spinner base. I have no clue as to which Munich airfield the caption refers. The third Bf 109 is WNF built Bf 109 G-14 W.Nr. 511 500, "Weisse 10", piloted by Uffz. Willi Smelka, 9./JG 52, which crash landed near Oppeln, 27 January 1945. Cheers Marc |

It is a very unusual Messerschmitt design. Was actually finalised by Halberstadt and it was given the designation CL.II :) Joking aside, dear Brünhilde was used by Schlachtstaffel 27b and was a pet propaganda subject. Poor Thea behind was shot down on 27.8.1918 with the unit commander actually surviving the ordeal. Cheers Stig |

I'm a bit doubtful about that location, because of where American forces had reached in 1945 and where I./JG 7 was. I wonder if it was in fact Brandenburg-Briest? P.S. that Bf 109 K-4, 9+ı, seems to have a partial Werk Nummer stencilled on the rear fuselage, ending in "…50". |

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Hello everyone,
Regarding the Ju 88 hulk in Wellenmuster camouflage (lower photo in Post #748), could the print possibly be flopped? I ask this because of the open section in its lower fuselage and the possibility that it was where the Luft-Torpedo control bump might have been removed. These were mounted on the port side of the cockpit. Respectfully, Steve Sheflin |

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Gents,
Post 748 – Nick, I agree that the aforementioned photo of this Me 262 was probably found at Brandenburg-Breist. The new photos are clear evidence that the aircraft was dragged to a new location away from the hangers. The Americans discovered the trying to tow the Me 262 by the nose wheel quickly snapped it off. What worked much better was to loop a cable over the fin and horizontal stabilizers. Pulling it from the back caused the cable to bite into the fin leading edge and hook onto the strongest part of the tail unit where the adjustment mechanism for the HS inclination was located. The wrecks at Lechfeld show lots of evidence for this methodology. However, here the cable must have slipped of the mechanism and rode up the fin to rip the top of the fin off, perhaps as it was descending a slope. Post 751 – Steve, take a look at the jeep on the left. The steering wheel is located on the left side to the vehicle, confirming the photo is correctly printed. As well, the pilot seat is in the right position too (left side). You must have had a late shift! Cheers, David |

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
#748 and #755
Access to control cables and wiring was left side of Ju 88 cockpit side. Number on nose R.1074 (fuselage number) but last two of W.Nr. abowe, painted over. My info comes out as .... 142466 Ju 88 A-4 I/KG 76 (Luftflotte 2) 15% at Foggia 28.05.43, clearly abandoned at later stages Image rang a bell, but also on Flickr.com, so copy of copy ?? http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/foru...tach_id=860588 #756 lower portion Hanau is "Hannau/Langendiebach" re the two destroyed Ju 88 G-6 620678 and 621191 (Ref: US A-report ) |
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Thanks for the info, Ed
I have asked the seller about the R number on the nose of #748 and he says he reads the number as R1874. Regards, Rudi. |
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Maybe, hard to say. Maybe. Part is painted out.
There are candidates in 822xxx range, also Foggia area. FYI there is not exact nummerical correlation to W.Nrs. |
