Re: Need Unit ID of Ju86 with Pre-War Code 32+L410
I'll have a go Doug...
25+D37 - III.(Kampf) Lehrgeschwader 152 (formed from III./KG 152) And as I understand it codes beginning 0?+??? were used by types attached directly to the Oberkommando der Luftwaffe. ...and about that's it... :) Cheers Peter D Evans LEMB Administrator |
Re: Need Unit ID of Ju86 with Pre-War Code 32+L410
Hi, folks...
Ah, the contradictory nature of Luftwaffe codes... don't we just love 'em... ! Glad Doug put up one for consideration which is similar to one I saw a while back... Ju52 - 'dot' 04+20, with the '20' repeated on the side of the central engine cover ring in white, with a short white vertical bar above and below it. Judging by the apparent haste with which the attendant troops were embarking (or disembarking) their bicylces, and the Ju52's engines still running, might it have been a 'manoeuvres' code, possibly...? Regards... |

Re: Need Unit ID of Ju86 with Pre-War Code 32+L410
OK, here goes......
25+D37 on a Ju86 - belongs to 7./KG 152. The code is also associated with II.(K)/LG. or how about: 2L+D21 on a Do 17E - belongs to II./LG 1. See Taghon to confirm this code. or how about: 2L+W40 on a Ju 52 - this is a Stab IV./LG 1. or: "dot" 04+01 on a Ju 52. - This is aircraft "01" of K.Gr.z.b.V. 4 (first formation) from the Sudeten crisis of 1938. Also seen:"dot" 08+14 on a Ju 52 which of course is aircraft 14 of K.Gr.z.b.V. 8 (first formation). Regarding: 03+F30 on a He 51. 07+A16 on a Ju 52 Well, I still haven't solved these. Typically, the first digit is the Luftkreis number, in the case 0= East Prussia. So the He 51 might be from Stab III./J.G. 130 in the 1935 period, similar to 21+E21 for J.G. 132. One that has driven me crazy for 35 years is the well seen: 27+E11 on a Ju 52 bomber - Some books claim it is KG 152, but I think this is unlikely. (It used a 25 code). Possibly K.Gr. z.b.V. 172. I have more odd-ball prewar codes to vex you if you like. |
