Re: Lt Urban Drews kill list?
okay, think it was the BV 238, think he got it as a staffing kill (story I had read said it was a "kill")
believe he thought it was a BV 222, only finding out much later it was a BV 238 (at the time, thought it was funny, 3 or 4 planes attacked, but Drew got the kill) (read about in a WWII Mag, the main story was the fight with the 262's, with a side bar story about the attack on the BV 238) (should of been in Sept of 44) |
Re: Lt Urban Drews kill list?
H_S - whatever the story was about, the only 8th AF VCB ground score award to Drew was the aforementioned He 111K.

Re: Lt Urban Drews kill list?
Hi,
once again here is a link to history page of 361 FG website http://www.361fg.com/Hist.htm and it mentions the flying boat incident as taking place on September 17. By the way, Stan Stokes made a wonderful painting depicting this incident called A big victory http://www.military-art.com/mall/more.php?ProdID=12132 Jan |
Re: Lt Urban Drews kill list?

Re: Lt Urban Drews kill list?
Hello
in old Aeroplane Monthly (sometimes early 90s IIRC) there was an article on the 18th Sept strafing of a big 6 engined flying boat but the conclusion was that the flying boat was a ex French, IIRC Laté 523, not BV 238. Conclusion was based on interviews of German witnesses Juha |
