Heiligenbeil (GER) (today Mamonovo) (54 28 30 N – 19 58 00 E) General: airfield in the former East Prussia 40 km SSW of Königsberg and 1.5 km NE of Heiligenbeil. Grass surface with paved hangar apron. Ordered established as a Lw. Fliegerhorstkommandantur by 1 October 1936. Also used as an Industriehafen by Industriewerk Heiligenbeil. Air Units: (go to: Heiligenbeil site:ww2.dk ). School Units: Fl.Ausbildungs-Rgt. 31 (1939-41); Schule/FAR 31 (1939); Schule/FAR 51 then FFS A/B 51 (Jan 40 – Dec 41); Arbeitsplatz for FFS A/B 51 (Elbing) (1942-43). Erg./Ers. Kommando Carmen was housed in an old villa in via Milazzo 3, Bergamo, Italy, not so far from Orio al Serio airbase.
The planes flown was at the end of war Ju 188. The Kommando had any losses around Bergamo, like you can read on Nick and Ferdinando's book "Air War Italy", great opera full of particulars. Thank you Nick, thank you Ferdinando. Diego www.acpo.it |
