The marking is also consistent with an aircraft of I./SKG 10 depicted in Frappé's "La Luftwaffe face au Débarquement Alliée." I./SKG 10 became III./KG 51 in June 1944 and NSG 20 in November. That unit operated G-3s and F-8s.

NSG 20 and 11./KG 200 shared a base in early 1945, so they may also have shared a stencil.

Thanks Nick, interesting thought. Just ordered Frappés book from my library, I will take a look into it. Besides, which base do you have in mind, that was shared by both units?

Cheers,
Christian

They were together at Bonn-Hangelar and Twente, with 11./KG 200 formally subordinated to NSG 20 in February 1945. Then 11./KG 200 was detached to Rhein-Main in March to combat the Remagen bridgehead. After that the unit "disappears" from the records for a short period until it is reunited with 9. and 10./KG 200 as the III. Gruppe in April.

It may not be the same place: IIRC III./KG 51 was at Rosières-en-Santerre rather than Rosières-en-Haye. On the other hand, there's a big obvious military aerodrome at Rosières-en-Haye but not on the satellite images of Rosières-en-Santerre!

Very interesting. Can you post a link to the auction?
