Salut Claude,

Olaf Lübke survived the crash and became POW. I'm in contact with him from time to time and about 6 weeks ago i was visiting him. I'm working on the missions of KG 26 and KG 77 in the mediterranean area and specially southern france, as i spent almost all my hollidays in this area. But of course, i collected also information about missions in the "north".

He was writing a small report about this mentioned mission, i will copy it for you. Can you read/translate german text?

Greetings

Lino

Hi Claude,

Brian seems to be right, the report from Olaf Luebke names also the Flak fire coming from 3 destroyers as reason for the loss of AC. Left engine was hit and burning, later also the tail unit was damaged, so they had to do an emergency landing in the sea at about 23.15h.

Please watch your PM

Greetings

Wow, this is great information guys! Love filling in the 1944 'holes' in my database. Thanks for this great thread - wish we could get more like it. I do have one question. Does anyone by chance have a WNr. for the 9./KG 26 loss for Lüpke (or Lübke per Schmidt's 'Achtung-Torpedos Los!') on 18-Jun?

Hi,
i have the NVM somewhere about the loss of the AC. Correct spelling is Olaf Lübke.
I'll look for it the afternoon.

Another one from 7./KG 26 on the same NVM to fill your DB:

Hello Lino,

Have you the WNr of 1H+CP of 6/KG26 shot down north of Cherbourg during the same night ?

and WNr, Staffel, code of plane of Uffz Bütner (wounded), Jansen (killed),
Staüdel (killed) and Ogefr Braukmann (wounded), shot down 19 june by intruder over Valence airfield while coming back from mission on Channel.

Regards

Claude

Büttner (2 ts) was not shot down according to the NVM and the Wk Nr only is handwritten in as 8230?? They were 4 Staffel.
CP's Wk Nr is 801396
