Maybe I will try to commit something about the TGr.30, could you pls drop me a line at cdts@cdts.fr
Ju88 by the TGr.30 seems odd , more the Ju88 was even not able to "verschleppt" a fully loaded Go242

Re: Execution of KG-4 Personnel

Hi guys

I'm still rather confused about the sequence of events regarding the execution of the three German airmen. Perhaps we haven't the answers but:

(a) How was it that a court-martial was convened so quickly that they were executed within hours of being captured? Or would it have been a kangeroo court?

(b) Why were the aircrew executed and not any of the other deserters?

(c) What were the circumstances of the trial that found Major Hesse guilty of the crime, with a four-year sentence? How could such a sentence be passed, and by whom, when the war was within days of ending?

(d) Since his assistants received two-years and six-months respectively, can one assume that Hesse carried out the executions? Or did he receive the harsher sentence for giving the command?

(e) What happened to Hesse and his assistants?

(f) Apparently a German nightfighter was contacted to shoot down the three TGr.30 Ju88s. One was intercepted and damaged (with one crewmember killed). Any ideas to which unit the nightfighter would have belonged?

Quite a fascinating story and thanks to our members for their endeavours in unfolding the events.

Cheers
Brian

It is amazing how much German soldiers were executed by their fellow countrymen in the first days of May 1945. Really a pity...

By the way, speaking from memory, I think that between 20 to 40 000 German soldiers (and officers, up to the rank of Marshall) were executed during the war by their own side.

Most of them were killed by so called "Fliegende Standgerichte", word by word translated flying courts. At the endtime of war they drive around to find traitors, deserters and anyone who did not believe in final victory. Mostly it was the SS which executed these people. A very special edition of such a person was Generalfeldmarschall F. Schörner. His "flying courts" are well known....

Re: Execution of KG-4 Personnel

Standgericht = summery

So it was quick because there was no trial, just a summery execution.

there was no trial, just a summery execution.

Not just a german speciality, on 9. May 1945 , in Bad Reichenhall, the Mal Leclerc, asking to french Waffen-SS prisoners , why they wore foreign uniforms, one answered he himself wore an american blouse, Leclerc made executed immediatly the whole group, 9 men

Have you any details of the KG 4 crew that was executed. Also if you look at a map of Großenbrode airfield the runway goes directly over the habour , wonder if by " lake " it meant crashed into the habour. Although there is a small lake at the opposite end on the coastal side of the runway. http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps5nvvjkc5.jpg
