Re: JU88 marked L1#PL history needed
Ju 88 W.Nr. 0886612 was assembled by Heinkel at Oranienburg late in 1941, and was A-4 version (at least originally), Stkz. RF+OL. It is known at Rechlin in 02.09.42. If this is one of the several old and recoditioned A-4īs assigned LG 1 in late 1944 / early 1945 I do not know (but likely, maybe, it simply kept old code in spring 1945). No fate is recorded.
It is wrong "thenem" says Luftwaffe added 88 to the Ju 88 werknumbers later in the war. They were such all the time, as 088xxxx in fact (just dependent on what factory assembled them), early documents generally only gave last four, later when more īlast fourī collided, then more precicision was needed. Even today many fates I have collide as only last four given and same version. Many, many dataplates and component W.Nr.īs markings confirm this. |
Re: JU88 marked L1#PL history needed
Adding to my post from last night: Sorry for typo, I ment thenelm of course.
By mid 1944 I Gruppen / LG 1 was re-equipped with the newest version of Ju 88, the S-3 (Jumo 213 engines) but as supplies of these ran out they got older machines again, e.g. nine A-4īs in December. http://www.ww2.dk/air/lehr/lg1.htm http://www.ww2.dk/oob/bestand/kampf/bilg1.html It is of course possible this A-4 had been with I/LG 1 prior to re-equip with S-3īs (July 44) and had been in repair for the duration. |

http://www.ww2.dk/oob/bestand/kampf/bilg1.html I Gruppen.
http://www.ww2.dk/oob/bestand/kampf/biilg1.html II Gruppen. Nick I was referring to I Gruppen (relevant to L1+PL with 3. Staffeln code), Your list (a good list from Ultra) records 13 (part of them). Total 9 to I Gruppen and 17 to II Gruppen make total of 26. Maybe there is another list there somewhere? Tonight I will check records and count how many (if any) was assigned in 1945. Besides, 301558 became L1+BM of II Gruppen (many photos of this have appeared, one recently on eBay - so were these all II Gruppen in your list?) ed |
Re: JU88 marked L1#PL history needed
Checked January 1945 and found 22 more Ju 88 A-4īs assigned LG 1, one Ju 88 S-1 assigned also 20.01.45. No W.Nr.s in these listings, only qty and unit assigned.
None found assigned LG 1 in February, March and April. I/LG 1 surrendered to Canadian troops at Varel in April 1945. One Ju 88 (301533) was found brunt out at Alhorn before 05.05.45, and Ju 88 A-4 301558 L1+BM at unconfirmed location (Austria?) The A-4 140130 ex-Stab./LG 1 was flown to Norway 05.05.45 These are just bits and pieces picked up tonight. |
