That fits with the 333 Sqn. claim. They attacked what they took to be a Do 24 not far from the Lister peninsula, and saw it fly off smoking. They didn't pursue it, as they were dogfighting a pair of 190s which they'd seen before making their attack.

u translate a bit higher in the letter too?

...vor allen Dingen bei den Einsätzen im Osten und Norwegen hat er sich als ganz hervorragendener Flugzeugführer bewährt. Ich bin selbst Flugzeugfü......fachmännisches Urteil erlauben zu können.

Deshalb ist mir auch der Absturz selbst so unerklärlich
therefore i cant myself explain the crash
