Platzflug comes from Flugplatz = airfield. It means a quick hop by various reasons (maintenance, engine test, other tests, pilot training or other curcumstances, even private reasons e.g.), not far away from the home airfield (=Flugplatz)and in the most cases not operationally. Verbandsflug means flying in a formation. In the German military terminology, a Verband (more then one independet acting military organisation like two Gruppen and more of a KG e.g.) are a Verband. The best example would be a USAAF CBW. When they took off for a target and finally finished the assembly in the ordered formation, the units were on a Verbandsflug to the target. As I understand it: Platzflug = Flying in the vicinity of an airfield, for example flying circuits and practising landings or checking something or somebody out Verbandsflug = Flying in a formation Best regards, Marcel |
