A Daily Telegraph reader friend of mine passed me this obituary. The second to last sentence sums Hermann up for me. As my friend put it what a charmer.............. |

Re: Hajo Herrmann passed away
Hello All
This blog by FalkeEins I think it is the best epitaph yet written on Hermann. Please do read it, it's from one of our own Luftwaffe enthusiasts with a wealth of knowledge on JG300 and perhaps puts reality on Hermann's 'nice old gentleman' image. Best Regards Chris |
Re: Hajo Herrmann passed away
To comment on this blog article....I dare not to say I saw Hajo Herrmann cry, but I saw the tears in his eyes when we visited the cemetary at Schwarmstedt....he did not spoke a word for at least 10 minutes...
Cheers Jan-Hendrik |
Re: Hajo Herrmann passed away
Thanks for that J-H ..I'm assuming that was twenty years or so after the 'anecdote' I described. Perhaps even the hardest heart can be subdued to repentance and tears when faced with imminent mortality ...

Re: Hajo Herrmann passed away
It was 2006. And I was surprised that when I met him there that he was not one time that way other people told me before...arrogant, merciless, unapproachable...
He was a perfect gentlemen, invited us to table to have a coffee with him, talked very kindly with us 'younger stangers' (he was just 59 years olde than me that day!). Best wishes Jan-Hendrik |
