Re: TG30 He111 25-12-1944

Thanks guys for all your help, its added a lot to what I already had. Either these three crewmen were posted missing and survived but this does not seem to be indicated on the NVM, which is not very clear. Franz Bechthold no 31263 could be Hechthold the first letter is not clear, Hans Klietsch no 53644 A/28 looks correct there is some hand written note next to his name which I cant make out, and Gerhard Cruner could also be Gruner his no. is 62678/195,

Thanks

There is a sailor called Helmut Gruner who is buried in Belgium and was killed on Christmas Day 1944 in the Volksbund database (see attachment) but no entry for a Gerhard Gruner or for anyone called Hechthold. It might just be that these 3 names have yet to be entered into the database.

Helmut Gruner was a member of the Kriegsmarine, not of the Luftwaffe. So it could have been a passenger of the He 111, but probably not a crew.

One year ago one could search the Volksbund databse by setting only the three first letters of a name. It was very useful to find names from written documents.

Now you have to type the whole name (there is a phonetic search function but it takes forever for me and never replies???). I searched for Lecker, Lecher and Lekker but did not find our man.

AFAIK all men buried in the Lommel war cemetery should be registered in the database. So either the men were posted missing but survived, or as they crashed near the frontline in a very disputed area, their bodies were hastily disposed of by one side or the other and have been lost since.
