Re: Unknown Bf110 emblem

Hi
Although we obviously need to see this emblem with a code, it is quite probable that it is a ‘version’ of one of the established emblems. In this respect I would agree with Franck that the emblem is a winged crocodile. I think that I./ZG 26 is the favoured option rather than the dragon of ZG 2

Hi Guys,

I did "quote" udf_00 post because I did think during long times about that lezard ... before having seen the last winged crocodile we got on eBay.
Whatever:
1/ It is a possibility thought I wonder the knowledge wart had about it during the 40ies: it's an Australian lezard.... Thought the Berlin Museum/zoo is (was?) full of strange creatures we can see only there!!! including some Komodo Dragons!
2/ I think Chris is not that far from the true. I think those "alligators" (which are US located! Everglades - that's the reason I prefer "crocodile") can be trials.
3/ Note that those drawings are just outlined drawings. That remind me those He111 drawings draw with chalk on fuselages ... temporary emblems?

For the unit I don't know. The picture I sent is not alone .... there is another one ... infortunately it's impossible to read codes!!!

Cheers, Franck.

Hello,

One of our EOE members has suggested that this is an emblem on III./ZG76 aircraft in Norway.

Re: Unknown Bf110 emblem

Thanks Larry
If its III./ZG76 its not connected to other emblems of that unit. It is quite possible, but there were other ZG units in Norway...so is there any other evidence which would particularly point to III./ZG76?

Cheers
Ian

Re: Unknown Bf110 emblem

Hello,

In the EOE Photo DB we have another view of the Bf110 being loaded aboard the truck that Franck posted on Dec. 17th. The code appears to be 2N+ES, which would mean that this a/c was assigned to 8./ZG76 at the time. This is almost certainly in Norway in late 1940 or early 1941. The other parts of the code are less certain, but the "S" for 8 Staffel is very clear. As Ian suggests, this indicates that this had nothing to do with the old I./ZG52 - II./ZG2 dragon emblem. Nor does this tell us whether this is a personal or a Staffel or Gruppe emblem. I only know of two versions of this artwork. It could have been a prototype for a new emblem under consideration that was never actually adopted.

Thanks again Larry.
Looks like we might have at least a provisional answer, although obviously more evidence needed.

Cheers and festive greetings :D

Hello Ian, Hello Larry,

Hummmm... Funny! There was a second picture in that old eBay auction ... Here it is! I agree with Larry concerning the "N" and the final "S" even if it's not that clear....
Make your own judgment.

And even more funny ... 2N+ES seems to be in the background on that picture!
All those pictures have been down loaded the same day; same eBay seller. I think it was a Fotoalbum in fact.

Cheers, Franck.

Re: Unknown Bf110 emblem

Hi Franck,
It is indeed from an album which was on eBay 24 Dec 2008 from which I've saved the eBay photos from. As we had a similar question on LEMB I did post an answer which is similar to Larry's input here in that it most probably is the emblem of 2N+ES. This aircraft was in my opinion involved in an event at Herdla 25.5.1941 when three Bf110s suffered landing accidents at the airfield. See:
