Thanks very much. I don't have that reference, but I think all or most of those Lw. symbols were reproduced in a couple of books back in the 1970's/1980's.

It is a 430 pages comprehensive explanation of staff map marking of all german arms. I do not think these symbols were ever presented this extensive in any book.

That said youre are welcome to it. Pm an e mail address to me and i sent it to you

Re: What does this OOB Symbol mean?

A very nice offer, Schnauzl, and if I were still a young researcher I would leap at the chance. But I have already been through all of the Luftwaffen-Kriegsgliederungen, what few there are, and identified the units and symbols listed. I think the only comprehensive ones I came across over the years that displayed the non-air units with their symbols were for Luftflotte 5 in Norway and Finland during 1942-43, and for Luftgaukdo. Kiew (later Charkow) in 1942. The basic air unit symbols were always easy to figure out. Many if not most of the non-air units used a slight modified Heer symbol for the same type of unit so these were decodeable too but it just took a little longer.

But if a huge cache of previously unknown wartime Luftwaffe OB charts is suddenly discovered, I'll be back to take you up on your kind offer!

Cheers,

Larry :) :)

And here are some from a Luftwaffe source. Beware that some of the symbols changed midtwar.
