Re: Color film brand new FW 190 in may 1945
Amazing...
If I was living alone, I would blow it up as a wallpaper for my living room;-)) Cheers Marc |

Ferdinando - great work! Really great to see the colours so clear!
Cheers, Simon BTW: The Ju87 I mentioned in the second vid is the H5+CK (just the red C was painted on) from 2./NSGr.10. The W.Nr. is unknown to me. On two pics I know from this bird no W.Nr. is visible. |

"...A group of American soldiers sitting or standing near and on an FW-190...."' - of course looks like Bf109 :) Time for view: 11:08:42:07 Source: National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), 342 USAF 18457 http://resources.ushmm.org/film/disp...p?file_num=174 |
Re: Color film brand new FW 190 in may 1945
Thanks for your rare find, Kris
It is a WNF built Bf 109 G-14 in the W.Nr.51x xxx range; the first two digits can be clearly seen. A very rare breed of 109 indeed; I know only 11 pictures representing 5 different planes from this producer. Marc |

Marc , please try to ID more details from photo.
It is very interesting. Kris |
Re: Color film brand new FW 190 in may 1945
Kris,
Wish I could... The yellow tail band which indicates a training unit is the only sensible information I may add. So either a JFS or JG 1xx machine. I wonder which airfield is close to Dachau? Cheers Marc |
Re: Color film brand new FW 190 in may 1945
Gröbenried?
Edit: See Charles answer below. I though that Gröbenried was infact used during WWII. |

Re: Color film brand new FW 190 in may 1945
Hello Marc,
in 1944/45 yellow Rumfbänder perhaps were not special indicators for training units. At that time these markings were often allready painted on aircraft not yet allocated to a certain unit. There are quite a few fotos of Bf109s, even of the K-4 type, without any tactical markings, but showing yellow bands. One rather well known aircraft is Bf109G-6 Werknummer 165545 captured at Augsburg and fotographed in color. It was intended for being used as a testbed at MTT, but had an accident on its ferry-flight to Memmingen. Gröbenied airfield is only a small field used for private gliders since 1981. AFAIK, it did not exict during wartime. A well known airfield next to Dachau is Schleißheim, being less than 5 Kilometers south of the infamous KZ. HTH Carl |

Many thanks Carl,
I absolutely didn't know the other meaning of the yellow tail band. This really enlightens my understanding of late war photos 109's which do show such markings. And Schleissheim is an obvious location being so close. Thanks again for your time and informations Marc |
