Hi,

Thank you very much for participating in this thread. I do not imagine that this question would generate so many answers !

Hi.

As always this ends up with the question whose law... for most europeans what is law in the US are not necessarily law in their country. What you are implying is that anyone could walk into the BA in Koblenz with a laptop and a negative scanner and demand access to the negatives, scan them and sell scans on the internet ( for example). Sadly I myself is a coward in this regard, as I do not want to use too much time and money caught in a legal battle

Who will be the first to do it? Must be several from the community here with free time, send me a pm and I will set you up with the equipment... as long as I get copies for research and publication.

And when we finish in Koblenz, Freiburg, Berlin and NARA would be next.

Anyone know what arrangements you must do to set up camp at NARA for a month?

I guess Selke GmbH will be quite happy now!

Well, seems I have a lot to do in the near future.

Regards,
Andreas

Hi, Bertrand

I guess the main reason for the activity in the thread is the impact free access to BA collections and the possibility to copy everything and use it at will would have.

It is possible that this is the law - what the real practical limitations are remains to be seen!

Andreas B

Andreas,

Apart from the US archives (maybe not all of them), no depository is free of charge: ECPA-D and SHD/A in France, BA in Germany, IWM in UK all require reproduction fees.
