Hello Tony , good to see you are also still researching the Luftwaffe crashes in Ireland too , this forum is a wealth of information. Keep up the good work.
Just out of interest in correspondence I had with Lt.Ludwig Stockbauer he said the reason they landed in Ireland was because of damaged they received from the fighters that attacked them . |

Lauer (B) detailed him to send a message that they had been attacked by Spitfires (sic).Over two and a half hours later he sent another message to say that they were landing (Cork) and repeating Spitfires! Certainly conflicting there. |

Like you Tony I have never stopped researching the Luftwaffe crashes in Ireland and hopefully in early 2013 myself and Paddy Cummins will be publishing a book on the subject . After many years of hard work and countless visits to Germany I think it's about time a book was done on the subject.
In relation to the Stockbauer crash there sure is conflict with some of the information that we have got from the vets . As you know Paul Stormer was a very close friend of mine and I met him at his home in Hamburg on numerous occasions and we worked very hard together to build up a super collection of material about the Luftwaffe crashes in Ireland. As I already said in letters that I received from Lt.Ludwig Stockbauer he put the damage of the JU88 down to Spitfires , have we any idea what AA battery fired on the JU88 if any ?? You were very lucky indeed to speak to Herbert Schulze , Stockbauer told me that he passed away many years ago . I guess in some cases we will never know the true story as crew members often tell different versions of events as they happened . |

Sorry, I did not realise that you were researching the Luftwaffe crashes in Ireland just thought it was trawling. Has anyone told Paddy Cummins that he is writing a book?
Stockbauer encountered anti aircraft fire in the Bristol area and later on approach to Birmingham. It was following then that he shut down his port engine. I had a number of phone conversations with Herbert Schulze in 1982. I am not aware that you were such a close friend of Paul Stormer. |

I am surprised you asked about Paddy Cummins in such a way , myself and Paddy have been working together for many years now , all you have to do is ring him to confirm this. Yes , Paul Stormer was a very close friend . I was friends with Paul from 1997 until he passed away contrary to what some people may claim .I was also the only Irishman to visit Paul at his home while researching the Luftwaffe crashes in Ireland . I had the pleasure of visiting him four times in total and he also gave me his personnal collection plus awards documents . I believe he also gave a copy of his file to the Military Archives and you Tony . I have tons of correspondance from Paul in which he clearly states that I have his full permission to use the material that he gave me , these letters are there for anybody who doubts that I have Paul's permission. |
