Apologies for the long delay in responding but I've only just seen your enquiry!

Yes, there was an agreement between the British and the Germans! Strange but true!

Was this after they surrendered? Oddly enough a similar thing happened in the former French & Dutch Colonies-Japanese troops were used as a police force to maintain order (If I remember my Bernard Fall books);

It was in January 1945. The war still continued in Europe. There is a somewhat lengthy piece on this in the feldgrau.com forum
