Thanks for the updates. Updating myself on various staff markings, it seems that certain units had their field day when it came to their markings.
I am not going to continue this debate with further questions, but looking at some of the fancy markings they used, I sometimes wonder if they shouldn't have made better use of their spare time than come up with all this...:)

Dear all,

Regarding the original question on the staff markings, I have a Fw 190D-9 of Stab/JG 6 that carried the “- + -” marking. Its W.Nr. probably was 211929, and the aircraft was found in derelict state at Reichenberg (Liberec; Czech Republic) in May 1945.

Interestingly, the markings were in strict accordance with the 1937 regulations (incl. the old style fuselage cross, which remains a mystery, as it is the first and only time it has been observed on a Fw 10D-type aircraft). We published a photo and an analysis of the aircraft on pp. 158-159 of Part I of the JaPo Fw 190D Camouflage & Markings book. Our research at that time pointed to the aircraft having been assigned to the wingman (“Kazcmarek”) of the Geschwaderkommodore.

Note that upon further review, vom Hofe has an added detail to the markings of WNr. 5118 which I listed as '--+--'. He has an addition under each grouping of WNr. 5118 which shows the code as '--+˫-'. Sorry this doesn't translate well as a keyboard character.

Hi Jim with regards your update on Kalau Vom Hofe's W.Nr5118, im intrigued to say the least!
Would it be possible to see a scan of this puzzling code? Does this appear to be a small square or box shape Stab symbol.
I think this code is really unique in that i have never seen anything like this in any other unit. Worthy of more debate!
