Re: eBay: One super Bf109G-6
My point in asking the question about the smaller KZs is if that photo is from April (or later) 1944, I think III Gruppe was using the small KZs at that point so could this really be JG 26? Admittedly, there are exceptions in any unit markings, but this seems unlikely. As Franck remarked on Mietusch's "Schwarze 22" and I think his whole Stab was already using small numbers by April. It might have only been the Stab, but I've seen others not in the Stab wearing small numbers.
Who, then? Don't know. Great photo clean up Falcon! |

Hi John,
Indeed your question was/is rightful and it was - maybe - misunderstood by German, French and/or Swiss readers since I felt - through your writings - you put this guess in doubt. If you asked for a straight "when" ... Then there is no answer. Number size, but not only; III. Gruppe bar position seems to be different from one plane to another. More, Mietusch's Black 22 seems to be the smallest and we can find, in fact, three sizes during a short period. (let's say, roughly, from March to middle of August). I think it should be very interesting to check the ground personnal losses during this period ... At least, It was Marc's best guess and mine too, and still is... even if, doing so, we are entering in kind of speculation area border. Telling the true it's the real aim of Marc's Flickr page. It's my aim and Anders one too ... I'm sure you will agree that with a growing collection we - Marc and Anders better than me - are able to point Factories origin, WNr batch numbers ... With Carl in background as "Body guard"! :) Best regards, Franck. |
