Re: 159 Sqn Liberator in combat with Luftwaffe night fighter 28/29 June 42
Peter,
A few more snippets about the RAF Middle East Liberator IIs, though no more direct info about your original lost Liberator. All below from Philip Moyes’ “Bomber Squadrons of the RAF and their Aircraft”. 108 Sqn - started to convert to Liberators in Dec 1942, but plan was abandoned and squadron never fully re-equipped. - only two Liberator aircraft equipped for bombing – including ‘P’ – others being used in conversion training, were subsequently rigged for supply drops. AL566 ‘P’ 159 Sqn - didn’t have its ground crews as they had been mobilized on to India ahead of aircraft and aircrews. The Liberators were serviced by 459 / 454 Sqns RAAF. AL526 ‘G’ AL564 ‘D’ AL600 ‘W’ 160 Sqn AL555 ‘O’ AL563 ‘F’ AL582 ‘Q’ AL630 ‘Y’ Andreas, Nice website, I often “drop-in” to read snippets of the Desert War and Operation Crusader. Regards, ...geoff |

Thanks Geoff!
As an aside, don't you mean December 1941 for 108 Squadron? All the best Andreas |

Hi Andreas,
December 1942 as quoted from the book - I had to go and check it a second time - but of course you're right....it should be 1941. Good catch! ...geoff |
