Re: FW-190A-9, Did they exist?
Just a couple of small comments.
The 190A-9 never flew with the BMW 801F engine because that engine, as such, was never produced. But, a pair of engines -- the BMW 801TS and TH -- using components of the 801F were produced, and powered the 190A-9. Actually, they were considered, by BMW, to be equivalents of the 801F. Yes, the cooling fan was supposed to be a 14-blade cooling fan. But, tests showed that it moved too much air into the engine compartment, and that the older 12-blade cooling fan was more efficient and gave the a/c a higher speed. About the bulged canopy. At one time I also thought that was a sure sign of a 190A-9. But, I have since been told, by Erich I think, but could be wrong, that some Fw 190A-8s were also fitted with that canopy. |

There are several pictures of Fw 190 A8 with this bulged canopy in Jochen Prien´s and Eric Mombeek´s books. Further there is a very recommendable book about the Fw 190 A, D and Ta 152 H-versions written by Peter Rodeike in german language, wich´ll answer your questions.
