Re: Wreck in Alikianos of Crete
One possibility:
1941-05-20, 2./KGr.z.b.V. 60, Ju 52/3mg5e, 6908, 9P+MU, Chania-Alikianu, Unbekannt. Bruch 100 %. Flugzeugführer Fw Bickel, Heinz, + Kampfbeobachter Fw Huemer, Rudolf, + Bordfunker Uffz Peters, Gustav, + Fluggast Fw Seiler, Richard, + Matti |
Re: Wreck in Alikianos of Crete
Hi Matti,
That is really a possibility, the only loss of a Ju 52 i have in Alikianos. There was a second BO with the crew named Fw. Helmut Hömke. For the "Fluggast" Fw. Seiler i have a first name Florian. May be i am wrong. Hi Marc, I have a lot of pics from Crete with destroyed Jus, the only ones with a such number on the tail is this with the 9 and an other with an 11 (attached). I think they are both a product of propaganda, a deception and not original. Can you explain what could this number mean? cheers Byron |
Re: Wreck in Alikianos of Crete
This wing does NOT belong to a Ju 52. The Junkers wings were corrugated and tapered on its end and its pitot tube were near its wing tip. Im trying to discover which type plane did it belongs to.

Byron -
I'm not a markings person but I think the markings on the tail are the aircraft's tactical Kennzeichen. See: http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/archiv...p?t-12325.html Kössler, Karl. Transporter – wer kennt sie schon! Die Kennzeichen der Transportfliegerverbände der Luftwaffe von 1937-1945. Düsseldorf: Alba Buchverlag, 1976. ISBN: 3-87094-410-2. Pb (card cover). 89p. Illus. Re: Wreck in Alikianos of Crete
It looks like we have I am guessing an airport junk yard and are seeing different aircraft. The wings are not Ju52, but that tail certainly is. Note, there is more corrugated remains (as we would see on the Ju52) under the smooth skinned wing.

Re: Wreck in Alikianos of Crete
Ηi Larry,
Kössler`s book didn`t help much, to my opinion it is too complicated and didn`t lead me to any safe conclusions. Judjing by the number on the tail, if this shows the squadron, the aircraft must have belonged to the 9th Sq, that means KG z.b.V. 1, no other unit had a 9th on Crete. Besides, the area is not an airfield on the island, Cretans who know assured me about that. The only airport junk yard was Maleme and nowhere else. |
Re: Wreck in Alikianos of Crete
Hi,
A pic of the present time taken in Alikianos where the Ju 52 crush landed |

Hi,
just found the observer |
Re: Wreck in Alikianos of Crete
In Flugzeug Archiv number 3, mostly devoted to the Ju.52 in the battle for Kreta, at pag. 53 appears the picture of a Ju.52 with a dark painted number 10 on the rudder, under the haken kreuz (and not above it as in the picture posted by Byron). The aircraft alledgely belonged to KGr zbV 106. In another photo appears a rudder with a dark painted 7.
