There is no issue here from my side. We interpret the content in the book differently.

On page 166 in the book you refer to it is stated that 2./(F)121 was renamed on 24.10.1939 to 2./(F)Ob.d.L. and then became 4./(F)Ob.d.L. in September 1940.

The unit previously known as 2./(F)121 was equipped with Do 215 after it had changed name and been transfered to the Ob.d.L. organisation. All Do 215 entries in strength reports and loss lists are made under the Ob.d.L. name and not 2./(F)121. So far I've not seen any entries in documents related to the Do 215 that has been made under the unit name of 121 Gruppe. If you have come across documents that state otherwise it would of course be of interest to see them.

I'm no expert in Fernaufklärungsgruppe 121 or Aufkl.Gr.Ob.d.L. so I'm of course open to new facts.

Ok I understand your point, however I did not mention 2.(F) someone else did, however both 2.(F) and 3.(F) operated DO-215 too and scorred losses with the type. If you say you have the book then is all in there .

Are we looking for information on the plane You show us in the pictures of post #4 ??
Because, again, this is a Do 17Z or Do 17U.
Or are we looking for a certain Do 215 from (F)121.

The book "Ein Blick in die Vergangenheit" is not offering to much, regarding (F)121, because Max Lagoda -the autor- served with 2.(F)/Ob.d.L. and later with 2.(F)/100.

Btw. why do we know it is (F)121 ??

No,

Under the impression was a DO-215 I was heading the wrong avenue
by now its seems to be a Romanian DO 17 shot down by someone
over the occupied German area sometime in 1942.

You might want to consider the fact that the Romanians did not operate any Do 17 Z (or U), they only had Do 17 M and P with a different more rounded nose.

So it is reasonable to assume that it is a Luftwaffe aircraft unless it was a Croat Do 17 Z.

Livadia (Krim) and Sochi (Caucasus).

There are a number of technical features which give good leads, the first is that you can see the remains of the frame of the nose section, and the details one can see there match the Z style nose, second difference is the main upper structure of the aft section of the cockpit, with the rear gunner position. If you compare details between the Z and the P/M (also E/F) you can easily detect the difference. In this photo the whole roof and the section holding the machine gun is detachable and can be jetisoned - as has been done here. On the P/M it was not detachable, but part of the airframe structure. The cockpit itself is slightly larger on the Z compared to P/M too.

There were only 15 Do 17 U built so the likelyhood that it is one of them is extremely small, especially since most of them, if not all, had been relegated to non-combat duties by that time the photo was taken. So with a 99,9% chance you can say that it is a Do 17 Z version of some sort.
