Re: Heinkel III of 4/KG 26 Loss 10th April 1940 Crew List
Thanks once again. Did any of those combat reports mention Hurricane L1592 as is suggested by Gordon Riley, as that's the details I'm after. L1592 is said to have been coded FT-C at the time.
NB - Any photos or details of code letters for L1592 prior to its time with 615 Sqn as KW-Z would be gratefully received. |
Re: Heinkel III of 4/KG 26 Loss 10th April 1940 Crew List
Larry , I have downloaded a couple of files from the PRO which I hope clarifies 43 Sqd on the 10th April ;-
From the ORB Summary of Events it show that S/L Lott was leading 6 Hurricanes of Blue and Green Sections in the attack on the He 111 which came down in the sea. The ORB Record of Events only lists 4 pilots taking off and landing showing 'Defensive Patrol. 1 He 111 down in the sea'. These four are shown as:- L 1592 F/O Edmonds t/up 1635 t/down 1710 L 1742 F/L Townsend t/up 1630 t/down 1710 N 2585 F/O Folkes t/up 1630 t/down 1710 L1725 P/O Upton t/up 1630 t/down 1710 In addition to this there are two Combat reports:- Blue 1 S/L Lott just a first page summary sheet and Blue 3 F/O Christie Full combat report showing Blue 1,2 & 3 plus Green 1,2,&3 all as firing on the Heinkel , with Blue 2 getting two hits to the port wing through the main spar and Green 2 hit in the engine cowling. The attack on the Heinkel being shown as 1650 on all reports |
