Re: Florida US Navy Crash July 30th/31st 1929
Stig,
All three aircraft were assigned as trainers to the Naval Air Station Pensacola. |
Re: Florida US Navy Crash July 30th/31st 1929
OK George
Should I interpret your answer that US Navy at this time had no numbered training units and that Pensacola was their training facility? Cheers Stig |
Re: Florida US Navy Crash July 30th/31st 1929
Stig,
There were numbered training squadrons, in the VN- range, at Pensacola but during this period the aircraft were assigned to the parent Naval Air Station, not the individual training units. From about the mid-thirties the accident reports start to include the training squadron numbers. |
Re: Florida US Navy Crash July 30th/31st 1929
Thanks George
I see, hmm:) Admit I am terribly short on US Navy and USMC 'between the wars'. Only book I have is 'Bill' Larkins US Navy 1921-41 combined with USMC 1914-59 and the training units is not the book's raison d'aitre... Any internet site you can recommend or perhaps a book by yourself could solve my problem??...:D Cheers Stig |
Re: Florida US Navy Crash July 30th/31st 1929
Unfortunately, Stig, I am not aware of any useful internet sites or any books, other than the two you mention, that cover the subject in any detail. I suppose that there is not a lot of interest in this area, other than in the colour schemes and markings?
