Re: Airspeed Oxford HM420 or NM420
Hello Noggin,
Am puzzled by your latest reply. For Krwawicz, Mieczyslaw see here - http://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/ca...,%20MIECZYSLAW Date given IS the 16th March '45. It would seem that Krwawicz survived the crash and finally surcumed to his injuries on the 14th June 1945. These details can be seen in this website, includes photo of the headstone. A different date of death ? http://www.polishwargraves.nl/new/7174.htm Looks like CWGC has it recorded incorrectly ? Anyone have details of registration ? Alex |
Re: Airspeed Oxford HM420 or NM420
June 14th 1945, two Oxfords collided and crashed near Kinoulton, Lt Krwawicz was killed and his body conveyed to Newton mortuary same day. The other pilot baled out safe. Unless there were 2 Mieczyslaw Krwawicz as I have no service numbers. But a Mieczyslaw Krwawicz is registered at Bingham in the 2nd quarter of 45 with GRO ( I have ordered his death cert to check ). Only one Mieczyslaw Krwawicz listed on the CWGC as you say March 45.

Re: Airspeed Oxford HM420 or NM420
June 14th 1945, 2 Oxfords collided and crashed near Kinoulton, the pilot of Oxford HN378, Lt Mieczyslaw Krwawicz was killed, and his body conveyed to Newton mortuary same day the un-named pilot of NW719 abandoned his aircraft safely. 1 mile WSW of Kinoulton, Notts. The GRO has Lt Mieczyslaw Krwawicz death registered Bingham area 2nd quarter of 45 which would tie in with June.

Re: Airspeed Oxford HM420 or NM420
Hello,
Just got "The Price of Peace" by Colin Cummings of the shelf, it does have ,on page 188 the details of both the Oxford's. And yes it has - W/O M. Krwawicz as being the man killed, date 14 June 1945. Should have got it down earlier :) However this raises the question of the CWGC details recorded as there is no record of non Commonwealth deaths on 14 June 1945 on its website. Great work on your part, well done. Alex |
Re: Airspeed Oxford HM420 or NM420
Bit of a convoluted trek from the origanal question though. I'll wait to see what his death cert says then either tell the CWGC or have a word with the old Newark CWGC stone mason , who now runs the RAF Balderton research group. He will still be in contact with somebody who can sort it.
