Dear Peter,

Thank you for your kind assistance as well. Most interesting new information such as that Vaupel was Technical Officer and the name of Adjoint Xavier de Montbron. Only 3 machines from 92 Squadron took-off, do you happen to have the serial number of the aircraft flown by Fokes, Montbron and the other unknown pilot?

Just a small remark: the Adj in "Adj. Xavier de Montbron" should read Adjudant, not Adjoint. It is the second highest French rank under the officers, roughly equivalent to the Warrant Officer in RAF (the highest being Adjudant-en-Chef, equivalent to WOII).

As Peter says "The body of Karl Vaupel was washed ashore at Dungeness later that day". He is now buried at Cannock Chase 1-3-87, but does anyone know where he was originally buried?
