Dear Carl and Uwe,
Thank you very much for your explanations. Best regards, Teresa |
Re: Joachim Wandel
However, if one asks WASt for NVMs nowadays, personal detail such as this are blacked out. Thanks to Data Protection & soon to be GDPR

Re: Joachim Wandel
That's a pity, Chris! By the way, what do the abbreviations WASt and GDPR stand for?

WASt https://www.dd-wast.de/de/startseite.html
GDPR General Data Protection Regulation |
Re: Joachim Wandel
Hi,
the GDPR is made for the protection of LIVING people. The protection of the basic personal information ends with the death of the person. Serious researchers can get the information from WASt - but no fotocopies of NVMs. The WASt is not a public archive. Their main task is of juristic nature (pensions due to military duty, questions of parentage and legacy, identification of missing and unidentified, ...). The work of WASt is paid for by the German taxpayer. Regards, Uwe K. |
Re: Joachim Wandel
Living Next of Kin and/ or family are still subject to GDPR hence under Data Protection, when photocopies were made available, place, date & NOK details were always blanked out. In the early days they were not which allowed researchers to track down people & their families especially when last known address was added by WASt
