Re: Another 97th BG question
42-0381 ( 42-30381 ) - MACR 2069 ( 6th December, 1943 ) is available on Fold 3 .
2Lt. Brown, William J. O-673038 - Navigator - wounded - POW. S/Sgt. Herreilers, Frederick H. 12141341 - Top Turret Gunner - Badly wounded - in sea, recovered, burried by locals. But am afraid that the later one, 42-30381 - "Little Red Head" - MACR 3581( 3rd April, 1944 ) is not. Perhaps an approach to Craig Fuller at the AAIR site may get a result ? Crew names for this loss are as given in an earlier post. Taken from "5th Bomb Wing" by Richard E. Drain. Robert Daniels; Anthony ; Hamilton ; Tiller ; Johnson ; Thorp ; Bernius ; Davis ; Flanagan ; Reilly. KU 3 Apr 44 Fortress 341 HB Sqn, 97 Group. 5 Wing Base: Amendolecchis. ME1139 Area of Serajewo. Re: Another 97th BG question
As an extra, within the MACR 2069 there is mention of a 2Lt. VIESCAS, John P. -O-739595 - IWA - 6 Dec 43 Rtd.
Looks like "IWA" not sure of what it refers too, perhaps injured, wounded in action ? Anyway he is referee to as being a 97BG man. On "findagrave there is a Viescas, John P. died IIRC 1958. Which a/c was he with on the 6th December 1943, was he in the Brown, Herreilers crew ? Alex |
Re: Another 97th BG question
Sorry for late reply, just saw this.
I don't know if there is MACR for April 3 crash. Crew names are as you wrote them. Bernius and Flanagan were PoW, others were rescued by chetniks and partisans. |
Re: Another 97th BG question
Alex, the MACR for Viescas shows LWA:
Lightly Wounded (in) Action or Light Wound (in) Action. |
